“Backpacker Magazine, June 2003” Never fear: It's not just another mac and cheese. This novel creation, with corn, peas, tomatoes, peppers, and onions, delivers a real kick. Cooks in a pouch for easy prep. The catch? The cheese sauce can be difficult to blend. “Tasty” Very good Mac n Cheese with Kick -Buck, New Jersey “Mac n Cheese field test” Excellent flavor. Its nice to eat pasta that is actually pasta-not small bits and pieces. With experimentation I found using 2 oz of water less than called for made the best sauce. Also, break down the sauce package so that you aren/t adding lumps to the mixture. I used the bottom of my cup to grind it down. I found the lumps would not break down on their own in the water. -Cooper, Dallas, TX “This isn't your mom's mac” It's better! Real macaroni noodles with veggies and a super cheese sauce. I found previous reviews helpful in ensuring no lumps by breaking down the sause package prior to adding to the hot mix. Great taste with a real nice zing! -Rob, Aurora, Ohio

“For Sure Fav” Very tasty! Easy to make! Oh so good! My expectations were low for these meals all together and this was my first one. I liked it so much I went ahead and purchased a few other meals and were surprised with those too! We were near a leek patch and picked fresh diced up and added to this package and was excellent. -Denya, Syracuse, NY “My favorite dehydrated meal” After backpacking into Kalalau on Kauai, I wolf down an entire package of this myself. It has a good consistency, lots of meat and noodles, good flavor. Filling and satisfying after a long backpacking trek. -Pam, Honolulu, HI “Best Meal yet” Best of a week of good meals by Mountain House -Rich, IL “Best Beef Stroganoff by far” Made to the package directions, the noodles and beef are very tender and the sauce has the best consistancy and flavor of any of the Beef Stroganoff entrees that I have tried. Mountain House (Oregon Freeze Dry) manufactures long range and winter rations for the US Military and this is always the first entree to be dug out of the box. -Bill, Kabul, Afghanistan “The All-time Best” I have been eating lyophilized food since I was a young scout back in the eighties. This is the best freeze-dried entree I've eaten, all producers included. I first read about it in a book by Jerry Ahern when I was in high school. This was the protagonist's favorite, so I imagine it was the author's as well. Thank you Mr. Ahern. -Duke, Fayettenam, NC “This ALWAYS scores big” Have taken many kids and adults on various trips with lots of freeze-dried fair. This ALWAYS scores big. It is cheap but tastes awesome. I always take it. -Jim Edmondson, Pulaski, TN

“One of the better meals” Comes out on the soupy side but it has a great flavor - lots of meat - and is a really good warm-up if the weather is cold. -Pam, Honolulu, HI “Great meal” Great choice. Will go on all future trips. -Rich, IL “Amazing” Really hard for me to find something to eat on the trail without veggies or fruits, this stuff tastes GREAT and doesn't have chunks of vegetables. -Kayla, AL “Pretty good spaghetti” I took this on my camping trip and I enjoyed it for lunch. After cooking for about 10 minutes of cooking, I was pleased to have a very good and tasty spaghetti. I'd buy again. -Florida “Good Meal” Very tasty, meat needs a little extra time. -John Morton, North Carolina

“Great base mix for large groups” One of the favorite meals for our semi annual backpacking trips! We mix in tuna packs, rehydrated corn, potatoes and other vegis. Add a little powdered milk , top with grated cheese and "oyster" crackers and feast!! You could even carry canned clams (if you're so inclined)! -GeezerGriz, Montana “Excellent!” Cold, wet Boundary Waters trip--threw some left over fried fish into the pot--outstanding! -Iowa “Another winner from Mountain House” I must admit that I was a bit hesitant to try another freeze dried seafood entree after my first experience (not a MH product), but this one turned out to be a nice surprise. The consistency and taste were better than anything that I have ever tasted from a can, with much larger pieces of clam, and the smell was pure heaven. The only giveaway that this wasn't a fresh seafood chowder was the texture of the potatoes (all freeze dried potatoes have a diced french fry texture to me). This will definitely be on my regular order list. -Bill, Kabul, Afghanistan

“Worth hiking for” I would backpack just to have an excuse to eat this. My favorite dinner of the trip and at 520 cal, it delivers a nice energy boost. -Susan, San Joaquin Valley, CA “Backpacker Magazine, April 2005” Flavorful beef, fresh-tasting mushrooms, and a tangy sour cream finish made stroganoff a best seller long ago; the new vacuum-sealed packaging earns it a top spot this year. The stand-up pouch makes prep easy, the zipper keeps it hot, and the compact size let us dip down for the last bite.

“One of my top 5 flavors” So far Mountain House has consistently good flavor. One of my top flavors. The flavor is consistent with ala King dishes - just enough bell pepper flavor to kick up the taste. Lots of meat. Hint: w/ all pouch meals I like to shake the powdered flavor/thickener out of the bottom creases before adding water - makes it easier to mix everything well before closing up the pouch. -Pam, Honolulu, HI “Mountain House does it again” Prepared to the package directions, the texture of the vegetables remains slightly chewy, but an additional 5 minutes resting time makes you wonder if it really came out of a pouch. The consistency and taste of the sauce are spot on. Definitely something that I will make part of my regular orders. -Bill, Kabul, Afghanistan “Excellent dish” Like all these meals, this is better if you can give it more than the 10 minutes recommended cooking time. -Pam, Baja Mexico “Best Mountain House I've Had” This was really outstanding for a freeze dried meal. Seriously the only reason I knew it was freeze dried was cause I ate it out of the container. -Buck, NJ

“Comfort food in the backcountry” It's two whole chicken breasts, a bunch of mashed potatoes, and pretty good flavor all rolled into a single meal. Got rave reviews on my last trip. “Very Tasty Treat for Tired Hiker” This product was a wonderful taste treat while backpacking on Isle Royale. It made a great dish for one hungry hiker. It was very flavorful. The curry flavor was not overpowering, it was enough to give really good flavor. If you think you wouldn't like it because you may not care for a HOT curry, give it a chance. A wonderful change from rice or pasta meals!! -Terry, Jackson, MI “Dayum! It's good!” This is a really great surprise on the trail. Should be eaten at that point when you start fantasizing about your favorite Thai or Indian restaurant back home. -Karen, Oregon

“Should be called Beef Stroganoff with Black Pepper” I got called away after mixing this one up, so it had an additional 15 minutes to rest. When I first made it (2 1/2 cups of water) I was concerned, but after resting for approximately 20-25 minutes, both the consistency and texture were very good. The taste of black pepper overpowers the almost unnoticeable flavor of the mushrooms. Not a bad choice if you like a lot of black pepper. -Bill, Kabul, Afghanistan

“Spicy” Was hunting in Alaska and had this. It was GREAT. Thanks Backpackers Pantry. -Kansas “Darn good” When rating backpacking food I feel as though we need to remember it comes in a bag, freeze dried. For all that, it tasted really good. The meal comes with peanuts and a tube of peanut butter that really adds a nice flavor to the noodles. I enjoyed the meal. -Kevin Roberge, Old Town, Maine “Backpacker Magazine, June 2003” Even Asian food devotees agree: These noodles actually taste like real Pad Thai. Unlike with most freeze-dried fare, flavor actually improved as the dish cooled. Plus, it comes in a stand-up pouch and is fortified with a natural multivitamin supplement.
Prepare yourself! You'll be thanking your stars that this dish could serve three people! If you don't split this meal into seperate containers, you'll be racing your partner to the bottom of the bag. Short of Thailand, this is the best Thai Food you are going to get! -Jeremiah, Fairbanks, Alaska “Not as good as Expected” I love Pad Thai and I order it at every Thai restaurant I go to. But this just wasn't very good to me, the noodles weren't right and the peanut flavor (usually my favorite part) was lost among other spices. -Morgan, Sacramento, CA
